Prof. Nura Mohamed

Prof. Nura Mohamed is the Director General of the Kenya School of Government where he is responsible for policy making, overseeing administration and management of the School, and providing strategic leadership for delivery of the School’s mandate and strategic objectives. His stunning upward trajectory career in the public service spans over 23 years within which he has been recognized for his contribution to public sector transformation through training, curriculum development, evidence-based policy research and policy advisory. Prof. Mohamed has facilitated various capacity building programs that have re-engineered public sector service delivery processes and inculcated positive attitude and culture towards service delivery. He has steered the development of a number of policy-briefs which led to improved decision-making in the public sector.

As the Deputy Chairman of the African Management Development Institute Network (AMDIN), Prof. Mohamed has made contribution to the implementation of the African agenda such as the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and transformation of AMDIN, which is a capacity building arm of the African Union Secretariat. He is credited with the development of the first Strategic Plan for AMDIN, launching of a flagship research: State of Public Service in Africa, establishment of AMDIN Journal and the development of the AMDIN Resource Mobilization Plan.

In his role as the coordinator of the Youth Innovation Centre in Isiolo County, Prof. Mohamed has managed the development of resource mobilization policies and guidelines and produced proper financial reports, promoting the utilization of public resources, talent development, and innovation. The KSG Youth Innovation and Talent Centre supports youth innovation and creativity, providing a one-stop shop for all youth-related information, capacity building on Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO), and offering coaching, mentorship, and counseling services. As a lecturer, Prof. Mohamed has spearheaded development of curricular for public sector transformation including the National Leadership Development Program, Climate Change Planning, Policy and Budgeting Course, Public Sector Financial Management, and Public Procurement. He has also facilitated various programs aimed at public sector improvement.

In his eight-year tenure as the Director of Finance and Administration at the Kenya School of Government, Prof. Mohamed led numerous transformational initiatives. He provided strategic leadership in finance, IT, human resources, and administration, celebrated for strategic policy and procedure development, infrastructure and financial management, harmonization of salary structures, career guide development, and the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to fully computerize the School's operations.

Prof. Mohamed has received two international awards from competitions held by the Commonwealth Secretariat for successfully undertaking case studies focused on transformation and excellent customer service delivery. Also, due to his transformative contributions, he was awarded Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) by the President. In addition, he has been appointed twice by the President to be a member of the selection panel for nominees for appointment of a Chairperson and members of the Public Service Commission.

The Director General holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from Central University of Finance and Economics, China, Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance both from the University of Nairobi.
